Our target
We aim for Play-Ready's menus, settings and information pages to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2) at level AA. This is a target we are working towards, not a claim that every page and game already meets it. The games themselves vary, as explained below.
Features that help
- Dark theme: follows your device setting, or choose it in Settings.
- Colour-blind friendly setting: adds symbols or patterns to colour-coded pieces so that colour is not the only clue.
- Reduced motion: if your device is set to reduce motion, Play-Ready respects it and cuts back animations, screen shake and flashes.
- Keyboard play where available: many games can be played with the arrow keys, Enter and Space as well as touch or mouse.
- Read-aloud in Kids games: prompts can be read out using your device's own voice.
- Pause: timed and arcade games can be paused.
- Sound on or off: sound can be switched off in Settings.
- No sign-up and works offline: nothing to fill in before you play.
Known limits
- Some arcade and timed games need quick touch or keyboard input. They may be hard or impossible to play with some assistive technology.
- Most puzzle, board and card games have no time limit.
- Some board and card games cannot yet be fully played with a keyboard or screen reader alone.
- On small phone screens, the squares on some large boards are small to tap.
- Some games use colour to tell pieces apart. Turn on the colour-blind friendly setting if this is a problem for you.
We are working on these. If one of them stops you playing a game you want to play, please let us know, as this helps us decide what to fix first.
Report a problem
If you find something hard to use, email hello@play-ready.org with the word "Accessibility" in the subject. Please tell us the game or page, the device and browser, and any assistive technology you use (for example a screen reader or switch control). We will try to fix the problem or suggest another way to play.
