How to play Maths Cages
Goal
Fill the grid with each number once per row and column so every cage hits its target.
How to play
- An n by n grid uses 1 to n in each row and column.
- Each cage shows a target and an operation: plus, times, minus or divide.
- Minus and divide cages have two squares and the numbers can be in either order.
- A single-square cage simply gives its number.
- Wrong cages and repeats turn red.
How it ends
The puzzle is solved when every square is filled with no clashes. Your score is your time in seconds, and lower is better.
Controls
Phone: tap a square, then a number on the pad; ✏️ toggles pencil notes. Keys: number keys enter, 0, Backspace or Delete erase, arrow keys move, N toggles notes.
What changes in each version
Sizes 4 by 4 to 7 by 7; Hard uses bigger cages and no single-square givens.
Tips
- Start with single squares and small cages.
- List the ways to make a times target.
